Senna leaf
Appearance :
Brittle with short hairs, a few on the upper surface, more numerous on the lower surface, where they occur spreading on the midrib, especially on its lower part.
Colour :
Powdered senna is greenish yellow to light olive-brown, displaying fragments of veins bearing lignified vessels, tracheids and crystal fibers, isolated hairs, fragments of epidermis with stomata and free calcium oxalate.
Odour : Characteristic and the taste slightly bitter.
Content :
Sennoside contents is maximum (6.93 percent) in immature leaves.
Solubility :
Cultivated in dry lands of Southern & Western India, and indegenous to Arabia. It is grown from seeds. The leaves are picked before or while plant is in flower and pods are collected when they are ripe.
Storage : Should be stored protected from light and moisture.
